What Is Keto? (Everything You Need to Know About Ketogenic Diet)

What is keto? Great question. I'm going to break it down in super simple terms for you today.

What Is Keto?

Keto stands for ketosis, which is a natural metabolic state that your body goes into when you reduce your carb and sugar intake and start to rely on fat and ketones for fuel.

How Keto Works

Basically, when you reduce your carb intake, your body starts to rely on its stored carbohydrates—which are just in the form of glycogen. Glycogen is released into your bloodstream to be used for energy. And once your body uses up all of its glycogen and transitions to using fat for fuel, the fat is broken down into fatty acids. Those fatty acids travel to your liver and are converted into ketones—and the ketones are then released into your body to be used by your brain and your cells for energy.

That is the simplest way of explaining how ketosis works and how ketones are made for energy. And ketosis basically reinforces the kind of natural ancestral mechanisms that your body is used to, and allows you to thrive off of using fat and ketones for energy.
